2023-08-22 UPDATE: This is a guide I started writing for players of SMT:IMAGINE, specifically for people playing on a certain private server. Unfortunately that server shut down nearly a year ago, but it can still be played if you make a local server (this page does not cover making a local server, please Google it). I've decided I'm still going to finish writing this page since I've already started it, for people who perhaps still play on local. Thanks for your understanding.
For the past two weeks I've been spending a lot of time investigating Zoushigaya Cemetery. It's an open dungeon with a teleporter maze gimmick, so it's quite easy to get lost in. Thanks to Pumsco's guide, I was able to get a basic understanding of this place. There don't seem to be any English guides for this dungeon, so I decided to attempt making one myself.
Entry Requirements
- C-Class DB License
- Completed the quest New World
Enemies in this dungeon are quite strong and get even stronger at night. Make use of buffs such as Rakukaja and Samakaja, and bring a demon that is considerably strong (has been rebirthed several times). Most enemies have Death-affinity attacks, use Tetraja if you have it.
NPCs
- Kimo-Trying Punk [X12, X12]: Gives the quest "Shadow Standing in the Red Evening", only appears at night (18:00 - 6:00)
- Train Conductor [X13, Y32]: Gives Xuan Wu's plugin in exchange for Arctic Crystal, 1x Empty Can: Tomatoes, 1x Empty Can: Red Beans, 1x Twisted Pipe: Construction, 1x Scarlet Stone, 1x Token of a Leader and 1x Secret Base ID
Tinnitus Passages and Zones
Feel free to skip this entire section and go to the guide. This section only serves to shed some light on Zoushigaya's mechanics.
As I said before, Zoushigaya's main gimmick is that it is a teleporter maze dungeon. You will need to navigate through these teleporter mazes to get to other places in the dungeon. To do this, specific parts of the path in Zoushigaya are darkened. Approaching these passages gives the message:
...Which translates to "My ears are ringing...", and if you continue further along the path you will be teleported to a new area. Henceforth, I will be referring to these paths as tinnitus passages. Depending on where the tinnitus path is located in Zoushigaya Cemetery, it will take you to one of three maze layouts. I'll be referring to these layouts as Zone A, Zone B and Zone C. The Zone guides I am showing were made by Pumsco and can be found on their blog post that I linked. I take no credit for making them, all credit and thanks goes to Pumsco; I simply translated the text in these images from Japanese to English.
Images have been resized to fit better; right-click and open in a new tab to see full size.
Grey arrows indicate paths that are one-way, blue arrows indicate two-way. Some arrows split into two possible paths that you can be taken down, from what I've found. Enemies do spawn in the zones and the time of day influences which enemies spawn. During the day, Chaos-aligned enemies will appear and during the night the enemies will be Law-aligned.
The rooms with red circles in their center are portals that let you exit the zone. It gets a little complicated here, so please bear with me. The first time you use the red portal in Zone A and/or Zone B, you will be taken to their respective exit point (see the Zoushigaya Cemetery map above). The second time you use these portals from the Zone A/Zone B side, they will take you to the room before the Bloody Sakura in Zone C. This resets each time you leave Zoushigaya Cemetery.
Quest: Shadow Standing in the Red Evening
- Requester: Kimo-Trying Punk [X12, Y12] This NPC only appears at night (18:00 - 6:00)
- Requirements: Player is Lv60 or higher, completed the quest "New World"
- Repeat condition: Every 20 real-life hours
- Reward: 500,000 EXP, x1/x2/x3 Element: Dark Orb (see below)
The objective of the quest is to go around Zoushigaya Cemetery and ask the punks there if they know about the urban legend known as the "Shadow that stands in the red evening". Successfully talking to one punk spawns the next punk you need to speak to. To put it simply, this quest is a Kanji memorization test. You need to ask every punk the right question out of three dialogue choices, the correct option of dialogue being "Do you know of the shadow that stands in the red evening?"
If you choose the wrong dialogue option, the conversation will simply end without any confirmation or the quest objective changing, and you can try again. However, the number of times you choose the correct option the first time affects how many Dark Orbs you earn at the end of the quest. The maximum amount of Dark Orbs you can get is x3, and the minimum is x1. If you're farming Dark Orbs, it would be of benefit to get the maximum amount possible. This guide will, of course, show you which options are the correct ones.
Another thing to mention is that you do need to go through the mazes brought on by the tinnitus passages to finish this quest. And you can get lost quite easily if you don't know what you're doing or where you're going. But if you do know where to go, this quest only takes about 15 minutes or so, at least in my experience.
I'm sorry that got so long, but Zoushigaya needs a lot of explaining done. If you've come here for help with the quest or getting to the Bloody Sakura tree, don't worry because this is the ultimate hand-holding guide.
Short version
- Accept the quest from the Kimo-Trying Punk at night.
- Speak to the punk at [X15, Y10]; choose the first option.
- Punk [X25, Y06]; second option.
- Punk [X14, Y28]; third option.
- Punk [X14, Y23]; second option.
- Punk [X24, Y08]; first option.
- Punk [X23, Y12]; third option.
- Return to the requester punk, choose the second option.
If you chose all of the right options, you will recieve x3 Dark Orbs.
Long version
This is the detailed version of the guide that explains how to get through the warp zones required to complete this quest. It will get long, so apologies in advance.
